The Memory Support Activities Specialist works primarily with memory support staff and residents and is responsible for leading, coordinating and implementing programs and services for residents with cognitive impairment and provides a therapeutic environment that maintains each resident’s highest level physical, social and psychological well-being. This position is responsible for the day to day activity of the memory support center. Ensures compliance with all operating policies and procedures as well as State and Federal regulations.


Work Schedule:  Monday-Friday, 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.


  • Assist residents and families with arrangements of activities regarding parties, celebrations, musical groups, entertainment etc…
  • In conjunction with Activity Coordinator, coordinates activities, performers, lecturers, etc for social activities.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies as needed for programming within budget guidelines
  • Works to achieve and maintain good rapport in working relationships with co-workers, volunteers and groups of residents. Meets with residents in order to achieve their goals and objectives for programming needs. Serves as a liaison between residents, volunteers and staff here at Capitol Lakes Terraces.

  • With Activity Coordinator, evaluates and continually improves the effectiveness of all programming and activities, monitors residents changing needs and making recommendations to Supervisors and clinical staff for modifications.
  • Create and implement activity plans that incorporates physical, spiritual, community, emotional, vocational and creative needs of residents.
  • Assist in managing monies for residents in outings and van trips.
  • Orients and trains new volunteers who work with residents as well as follows up on issues related to effectiveness and appropriateness of these interactions.

  • Assist new residents with their initial and continuing adjustments to life in memory support at Capitol Lakes Terraces.
  • Responsible for documenting activity and social participation for all residents.
  • Helps to arrange transportation for resident outings and solicits volunteers
  • Completes resident activity assessment and ISP as directed by State CBRF code.
  • Monitors health needs of residents and works with Coordinator, Supervisors and Nurse to ensure quality of resident services.


  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • COTA certification is preferred or a minimum of 2 years at an accredited University with course work specific to health care, social work, education, psychology or related field.
  • Experience in dealing with the public
  • Ability to read, speak, write, and follow oral and written directions
  • Basic typing and computer skills as well as organizational skills.
  • Job role requires substantive interaction with residents, family members and staff.
  • Requires a high level of tact, persuasion and judgment.
